I Practice to Fit In

Ottobre 20, 2010

This morning I woke up and went to Villa Ada to play some futbol... I am tired of doing the same work out every other day... so instead today I went to the park and did some dribbling drills in between trees, some passing drills to trashcans and around rocks, and practiced some shots through swing sets... I am not the world's greatest futbol player... but I can see potential for improvement (mainly because there's always something greater than 0 ;) I did have a couple of pretty good shots into the corners of my 'net' that I was rather impressed with, like the one that soared just below the top bar and kept climbing until it started to fall, right where a dad was walking with his kid in a stoller... he expertly avoided the ball as it careened past them both, like a pro. After about 30 minutes of semi-continuous play (over 2 miles on the pedometer) I went back to the apartment.

As I was heading upstairs I saw one of the men that worked on the house waiting for the lift, when he saw me he smiled, I smiled back and went on my way... it wasn't until I got back to my room and went to the bathroom that I realized I had mud all over my face from practicing head shots... whatever. ;)

After a shower and getting dressed I went al centro to check out another hotel for my parents that was right in the piazza of the pantheon. I figured on my way, I'd stop by a toy store I scoped out on Saturday and get a couple of Christmas presents bought. The woman remembered me from Saturday and we spoke for a little while about me living here and what I thought about Roma and how I was enjoying it... she said she hoped I continued to learn the language and take it back as something I experienced here... I told her I was trying ;) She said if I want to return, I don't have to buy something, but she'll quiz me on my Italian. I said ok. It may be a good marker for my progress. haha. I also stopped at another shop in the area to buy a couple more things.

When Nic got home we read his new book in English and then he had to go to tennis... he really wanted to keep reading, it was a suspense book... but he left and came back and Giorgio and he did Italian storia and scrivere (history and writing)... we had some good fettuccini for pasta, formaggi e prosciutto e spanacci... mmm. Then after some tv he headed to bed and I went to my room to weep in the woes of homework... but I finished... somewhere before 10 so no worries. :)

OK Follow the path less travelled in the mean time... :) and walk that way to the beat of your own drum.
